On its grounds, the Shawnee Mission Environmental Science Laboratory, established in 1969, is a 22-acre preserve of woodland, prairie, a pond and trails along Indian Creek. Indian Woods Middle School is the Shawnee Mission School District middle school for the SM South attendance area, at 9700 Woodson in Overland Park.
